Sydenham Rugby Academy

In our pursuit of making Sydenham Rugby Club the top club in New Zealand, we have a highly regarded Academy programme. Over the past seven years we have had players who have come through our system make the NZ U20 team, winning world championships: Elliot Dixon, Paul Ngauamo, Telusa Veainu, Tyler Blyendaal, Codie Taylor, Taniela Manu, Lutera Laulala and Brodie McAllister. The NZ U20 programme will continue to be a focus for our upcoming players. We now have very good numbers representing our club in Canterbury teams, the NPC and Super 15 teams around the country plus we have current and past All Blacks from Sydenham.

The Club put together a five-year plan for development of players and coaches as it recognised the need to have the right systems and processes in place. From this five-year plan a group of talented young men will be given the opportunity to join the Sydenham Academy to develop their skills as a rugby player. The Academy programme begins each November and finishes in August each year. It consists of technical and physical trainings in which the Director of Rugby sets individual plans and progress reports for all the players. Outside resource coaches from the CRFU and NZRU also facilitate advanced skill base sessions where possible.

Vision
To develop top quality men and rugby players who have the potential to represent the club at Premier level (Division 1) and beyond.
